Tool drawer foam inserts

Every spanner, socket and screwdriver gets its own cavity — in a tool cart drawer, a case or a workshop box. Two-colour foam shows a missing tool in a second. From a single piece.

Why tools need a foam insert

Without an insert, tools pile up in the drawer: slow to find, easy to lose, and spanners rub against each other. A tool drawer foam insert gives every item its own cavity — your hand goes straight to it, and an empty cavity is visible at a glance. This is about time: a technician who does not hunt for the 13 mm socket, and a shop floor where tools do not migrate between stations.

We have made tool inserts since 2017 — for car service shops, installation crews, production plants, aircraft maintenance, energy companies and home workshops.

Where they go

  • Tool carts and cabinets — sized to the drawer and to your set.
  • Shadow boards and 5S — wall-mounted shadow boards and two-colour drawer inserts. Shadow board foam →
  • Power tool cases — drill, driver, batteries, bits and charger; replacement for the factory insert.
  • Tool boxes, Systainer, L-Boxx — an insert for your list in a standard container.
  • Kits for field crews — identical sets so a stock check takes a minute.

How we make it

  1. Outlines. Lay the tools out on a white table as you want them in the drawer and photograph from above with a ruler. We trace outlines from the photo. For precise work — measuring or 3D scanning of the set at our workshop.
  2. Layout. We place cavities to the drawer size: heavy items towards you, small ones in rows, a finger cut-out at each tool. You get a layout to approve.
  3. Cutting. CNC oscillating knife, PE foam up to 50 mm in a single pass, tolerance from 0.5 mm. The top layer with cut-outs is bonded to a solid base layer.
  4. Repeat runs. We keep the files. A repeat order or an insert for the next workstation needs no new design work.

Materials

TaskMaterialThickness
Tool cart drawer, two-colourCross-linked PE, dark top + light base30 top + 10–20 base
Heavy tools, workshopCross-linked PE (Ukraine)40–50 mm
Power tool caseCross-linked PE (Hungary) or PE+EVA40–50 mm
Transport box, production runNon-cross-linked PE30–40 mm

Unlike polyurethane foam, cross-linked polyethylene does not absorb oil or water, can be washed and does not crumble over the years. Colours: black, grey, white; a contrasting base layer for two-colour inserts. See Materials.

What to send

  • A top-down photo of the set on a flat surface, with a ruler or tape measure
  • Inside dimensions of the drawer or case: length × width × depth
  • Number of drawers or workstations
  • Preferences: one or two layers, colours, labels next to cavities

Or lay out the tools yourself in the online constructor and send us the layout.

Why us

  • Tolerance from 0.5 mm — the cavity holds the tool.
  • From one drawer, no die. Runs are cut from the same files.
  • Materials in stock — three types of PE foam plus non-cross-linked PE, in several thicknesses.
  • Shipping — across Ukraine; for other countries write to us with the destination and we reply with price and delivery options.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I send you the outlines of 60 tools?
Lay the tools out on a sheet of paper or a white table the way you want them in the drawer, and photograph from above with a ruler or tape measure in the frame. We trace the outlines from the photo. For precision work we can measure or 3D-scan the set.
What is two-colour shadow foam?
Two layers of PE foam: a dark top layer with cut-outs and a light base layer (yellow, red or grey). An empty cavity shows up in contrast, so you see what is missing without counting. It is common practice for 5S in manufacturing and aviation.
Can you make an insert for an off-the-shelf tool set?
Yes. If the set has its own case, we make an insert for it. If you move the set into a tool cart, we lay it out to the drawer size.
How much does a tool drawer insert cost?
Inserts start at UAH 499; the exact price follows your sketch. It depends on drawer size, number of cavities and material. Send the drawer dimensions and a photo of the set, and we reply with prices for several materials within a working day.
Will it survive daily shop use?
Cross-linked PE foam does not crumble, does not absorb oil or water and can be washed. Cavities do not wear out after hundreds of cycles the way polyurethane foam does. For heavy tools we use denser material, 40–50 mm thick.
Do you make runs for service shops and factories?
Yes — identical inserts for 10–100 workstations, with numbered cavities and labels. We keep the files, so a repeat run needs no new design work.
