CNC foam cutting

An oscillating knife on CNC goes through foam up to 50 mm in a single pass: a clean vertical cut with no dust and no melted edges. To your DXF files or our design, from one part to production runs.

What we cut

  • Cross-linked PE foam — 5–50 mm, black, grey, white
  • Non-cross-linked PE foam — 10–40 mm, white
  • PE + EVA — 20–50 mm, black
  • Other foams and soft sheet materials — by arrangement

Materials from stock — see Materials. We cut parts and inserts; we do not sell sheet material.

How it works

A CNC table with an oscillating (vibrating) knife: the blade vibrates at high frequency and goes through foam up to 50 mm in a single pass. The result is a clean vertical cut with no dust, smell or melting, with a contour tolerance from 0.5 mm (on thick or warped sheets up to 2 mm, typically 0.5–1 mm). Complex contours, small radii and finger cut-outs are all done in one pass.

Inserts up to 1000 mm are cut in one piece; larger ones are made from parts joined at a seam.

What we cut from

  • Your DXF files — 1:1 scale, closed contours. We check manufacturability, quote and cut.
  • Our design — from a sketch, photo or sample.
  • A sample — bring or send the part to be copied; we take the outline.

What you get

Parts with a clean edge; multi-layer inserts bonded or loose as you prefer; packed in film or a box. Shipped across Ukraine; for other countries write to us with the destination — we reply with price and delivery options.

Who it is for

  • Packaging and case makers without their own cutting table
  • Designers — prototypes from DXF
  • Manufacturers who need production inserts from their own files
  • Everyone who orders custom foam inserts from us

What to send

  • DXF (1:1, mm) or a description of the task with photos
  • Material and thickness, or “please advise”
  • Quantity
  • Whether layers should be bonded

Contoured and stepped cavities can be milled — ask us.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why a knife and not a laser?
A laser melts polyethylene: fused edges, smell, soot, and a kerf that varies with thickness. A knife gives a cold, clean cut with no smell or dust, the same at 5 mm and at 50 mm. For foam, an oscillating knife is the right tool.
What are the DXF requirements?
Scale 1:1 in mm, closed contours without duplicates or gaps, minimum inside radius 2 mm, each thickness as a separate file or layer. We check the file and tell you if something is wrong.
Minimum web width between cavities?
We recommend 8–10 mm for 30–50 mm cross-linked PE and 5 mm for thinner foam. Thinner webs can be cut, but they bend.
How much does cutting to my file cost?
We price by material area plus cut length. Send the DXF, material and quantity, and we reply with a price within a working day.
Do you cut polyurethane foam?
Technically yes, but we do not stock it and do not recommend it for inserts. Your own polyurethane foam — by arrangement.
